Tis the Season for Friendly Competition: How to Set Up and Play BAGGO®

Happy Holidays, everyone!

As friends and family gather together this season, there is no better way to break the ice and enjoy some quality time than with the "Best Backyard Game Ever". Whether you are hosting a festive party indoors or taking advantage of crisp weather outdoors, BAGGO is the perfect addition to your holiday entertainment.

To make sure your tournament runs smoothly, we’ve put together a quick guide on getting set up and keeping the score right.

1. The Holiday Set-Up

Setting up the game is a snap—literally! Here is how to get the board ready for action:

  • Find Your Spot: Look for a reasonably flat surface, whether indoors or outdoors. You will want a playing area of about 10 feet by 30 feet, with at least 8 feet of overhead clearance.
  • Snap the Legs: Unlatch the boards, remove the bags, and snap the front and rear legs into the play position.
    • Pro-Tip: Don’t be afraid to apply a little pressure here. You might hear a loud popping sound when the legs lock into place—that is perfectly normal!.
  • Measure the Distance: Place the boards facing one another and use the Distance Regulator Cord to set the perfect length. Simply slide the knot on the cord through the slot on the front leg of each board and pull them apart until the slack is gone. This makes it the perfect 20 foot for consistent tournament play.

2. A Game for Every Age

One of the best things about BAGGO is that everyone from the little ones to the grandparents can play. You can adjust the distance based on who is stepping up to the board:

  • 2–4 years: 8 Feet
  • 5–8 years: 12 Feet
  • 9–12 years: 15 Feet
  • 13 & over (Social Play): 18 Feet
  • Tournament Play: 20 Feet

3. The Rules of Engagement

You can play with 2 players (singles) or 4 players (doubles).

  • Each team plays with 4 bags, and opponents alternate their tosses until all 8 bags have been thrown.
  • Remember to respect the "Foot Foul" line—your toes shouldn't pass the front edge of the board.
  • The team that scored in the previous round gets "Honors" and throws first in the next round.

4. Keeping Score (The Math Part!)

The first team to reach 21 points wins the game. Here is how the points work:

  • BAGGO (In the Hole): 3 Points.
  • Ace (On the Board): 1 Point.
  • Grounder: 0 Points (If a bag touches the ground, it doesn't count!).

Net Scoring: BAGGO uses "cancellation" scoring, meaning the score is the difference between the team totals for that round.

  • Example: If Team #1 gets 3 points (one in the hole) and Team #2 gets 2 points (two on the board), the score for that round is 1 point for Team #1.

Watch out for the "Skunk" rule—if the score reaches 11–0, the game is OVER!.

Baggo is designed for social interaction and encourages a playful competitive spirit. Even your crazy uncle wants to play!

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy, laughter, and plenty of BAGGOs!
